The Callaway County Sheriff's Office says a fire that destroyed an unoccupied residence and outbuilding in the 4500 block of County Road 217 is a case of "apparent arson fire."

Firefighters with the Central Callaway, North Callaway and Millersburg Fire Protection districts responded to a structure fire shortly after 5:30 a.m. Monday, when a neighbor awoke to find a vacant house and detached garage fully involved in flames. The fire was brought under control and the property is a total loss.

CCSO deputies were called in shortly thereafter, where they and the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office found evidence they believe indicate the fire had been set purposefully.
