Liberty Taxi to extend into Fulton

Columbia-based cabs provide services after Ralph's Taxi does not reapply for license

By the time Westminster College and William Woods University students return in the fall, they'll be catching rides in a different cab.

The Fulton city council approved a business license for Liberty Taxi, a Columbia-based taxi service that opened in Columbia last fall. Services will begin in the coming months.

Liberty Taxi also provides services in Jefferson City. The move to Fulton came as long-time area cab company Ralph's Taxi did not reapply for its business license.

Liberty Taxi's owner, Jasan Hagan of Holts Summit, said the company's mission statement revolves around customer safety.

"The main thing we're trying to alleviate is the time of night when people go to bars," Hagan said. "We also offer discounts for students from Fulton to Columbia at a flat rate service, so if they can get a party available, it's more beneficial for them to take a cab then drive and risk getting a DWI."
