Team RSVP, Westminster team up to help rebuild Joplin

January 23rd, 2013 in News

Nearly two years after a massive tornado devastated the southwest Missouri town of Joplin, there's still plenty of work to be done.

Members of Westminster College and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in Callaway County are pitching in to help out. The groups are working together to send about 14 volunteers to the disaster-stricken town to rebuild houses with Catholic Charities March 11-15.

RSVP Director Mary Gordon said that her team often works with Westminster College students on their Senior Home Repair Program, but this was RSVP's first time taking a joint service project.

"This is our first time we've ever done it," said Gordon about Team RSVP. "It's pretty exciting. We don't know what we're going to do yet; Catholic Charities told us they really don't know until the day before you come down because they don't know how many volunteers are coming in and how many projects will get done."
