Hornets falter early in Hannibal loss

The Fulton Hornets were staggered by a slow start.

Dalton Powell put up a game-high 22 points and Hannibal led by as many as 25 in the first half before settling for a 59-44 North Central Missouri Conference victory over Fulton on Tuesday night.

The Hornets trailed 17-5 after one quarter and were down 35-10, before going into halftime with a 37-17 deficit. Fulton outscored the Pirates 14-4 in the third quarter to make it 41-31. The Hornets then used a 7-2 run at the outset of the fourth quarter to pull within 43-38, but Hannibal countered with a 16-6 run to seal its first NCMC win of the season.
