Fulton council talks parking, vehicle replacement

January 23rd, 2013 in News

Tuesday night's Fulton City Council meeting centered around business-as-usual, including a report from the Traffic Commission regarding parking on narrow streets and discussion of replacing two pieces of equipment.

City engineer Greg Hayes reported to the council regarding the Traffic Commission's latest meeting. He said Fulton's new traffic supervisor Jason Woods had put together a study of Sixth Street - particularly from Jefferson to West streets. Hays said that section of the roadway is only 26 1/2 feet wide, and with parking allowed on the north side of the street, it makes it difficult for traffic to pass through going both ways.

"There were a couple ideas of what to do: Create a one-way street from Jefferson to West, or to continue with two-way traffic but eliminate parking on the north side," Hayes said. "Ultimately, the commission decided it should be left up to the home owners. We sent a survey out last week and we hope to get answers back so we can make an informed decision."
