Hornets unable to sustain quick start

The Fulton Hornets were manhandled last Tuesday night.

Yes, Fulton was playing state-ranked Mexico, but losing 90-41 - at home and to a rival - is far from ideal.

So when asked which hurt more - falling in the manner the Hornets did against Mexico or dropping a game they led by double digits against the Boonville Pirates - head coach Ryan Shaw didn't hesitate.

"I think that out of a 32-minute game, we lost that game in two 2-minute stretches," Shaw said. "One at the end of each half."

Fulton held Boonville to just a single field goal in the first quarter and led by as many as 13 points in the first half. But all that was forgotten as the Hornets ultimately stumbled in a 62-50 North Central Missouri Conference loss to the Pirates on Friday night at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.
