A couple dozen Callaway County students will be starting at William Woods University and Westminster College next week, thanks in part to financial aid provided through the Fulton Colleges Fund.
The fund awarded a total of $52, 000 in scholarships to 24 students for 2013 - including two new $2, 000 scholarships - the highest annual dollar amount the association has ever contributed. Starting on Aug. 19, volunteers with the Fulton Colleges Board of Associates will make the rounds to Callaway businesses and individuals seeking support for the 2014 scholarship program.
Board of Associates President Nicole Elliott Bartley said the organization does not have a set goal for this year's campaign, but said she would encourage area residents to pledge their support.
"Being a local Callaway County resident that went to school here locally and has started my career here locally, I feel our two colleges bring a lot to the community," Elliott Bartley said, adding that, "encouraging our local youth to stay here is important."
