The 6th annual Ashley Garret Memorial Children's Art Festival in Auxvasse will offer some less-than-traditional fare this year.

The Auxvasse Creative Art Program's event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Domann Park in Auxvasse. In addition to more usual arts and crafts such as finger painting and button-making, this year's art festival will feature some graffiti-themed projects, including giving kids the opportunity to blast a canvas with paint-filled water guns.

Arts council founder Jenny Bondurant said the idea for the graffiti angle in an effort to provide a wider range of art for the kids after she spoke with Lake of the Ozarks graffiti artist and former U.S. bobsled team member Hillary Werth.

"We try to get things that get lots of different kids involved," said Bondurant. "So we have more traditional art and craft projects, but we're always looking to get kids involved with different types of art, different ways to express themselves and different forms of beauty, so they can explore what art means and have fun with it."
