Hornets, T-Birds battle to break into win column

Two weeks ago, the North Callaway Thunderbirds and Fulton Hornets couldn't have entered the 2012 season on more opposite sides of the spectrum.

North Callaway, ranked No. 8 in the Class 2 preseason poll, returned eight starters on both sides of the ball from a team that started 1-4 in 2011 and won seven straight in going 8-5 and making it to the Class 3 quarterfinals.

Fulton finished 2-8 last season, 1-9 in 2010 and fields a squad in 2012 that, at best, has a lot of unknowns.

Tonight, the two squads - separated by just seven miles - are one and the same at this early stage of the season. The winless Thunderbirds and Hornets kick off at 7 tonight in Kingdom City.
