Hornets able to cash in with victory over Tigers

There are certain happenings - a live fumble, a drive-altering penalty or continuous third- and fourth-down breakdowns - that have previously doomed the Fulton Hornets this season.

Without fail, if you were to throw one, two or all three of those mistakes at the Hornets as recently as three games ago, that had been Fulton's ultimate undoing.

Luckily, that wasn't the case in the Hornets' regular-season finale against the Kirksville Tigers.

"It comes around," Fulton head coach Pat Kelley said. "That's part of the game and early in the year we weren't getting those breaks, so it's nice to get those breaks. But once you get them, you have to be able to take advantage of them and we were able to do that."

The Hornets played - by all accounts - their cleanest game of the season in holding off Kirksville for a 21-13 North Central Missouri Conference win Friday night. With last week's 35-19 triumph over NCMC rival Mexico, Fulton has put together consecutive victories for the first time since winning three straight in the latter part of the 2009 season.
