Lake Mykee annexation to Holts Summit proposed

October 16th, 2012 in News

A Lake Mykee resident Monday night informed the Holts Summit Board of Aldermen he plans to lead a petition effort asking for a vote on the issue of involuntary annexation by Holts Summit of Lake Mykee.

Marc Haycook of Lake Mykee said he has discussed the current situation with numerous Lake Mykee residents and he believes about 75 percent of them would favor annexation of Lake Mykee by Holts Summit.

Haycook said two main factors are driving the desire of many Lake Mykee residents to be annexed by Holts Summit. Those factors are Lake Mykee's aging and expensive sewer lagoon system and the desire to have a local police department for security purposes.

Haycook said some calls by residents to the Callaway County Sheriff's Department draw no response and others require a wait of 45 minutes before a deputy appears.

Haycook emphasized he was speaking only as a resident of Lake Mykee and not in behalf of either the town council or the Lake Mykee homeowners association.

"I'd like to see it happen and I think there is interest by the Holts Summit Board of Aldermen to place the issue on the ballot at some point," said Holts Summit Mayor Brian Fitzpatrick.
