Matthew Huffman, 3, will have fun times ahead playing on a donated playset in the backyard of the Grey Creek Valley subdivision home built by this community for his father, wounded Marine Tyler Huffman, formerly of Fulton.

The flat backyard is surrounded by stone-embossed sidewalks. And a wide, covered patio will create plenty of space for Huffman and his son to play outside.

Or inside, Matthew's bedroom, closet and bathroom were designed with his father's mobility in mind - as was the entire wheelchair-accessible floor plan.

Even if Huffman isn't in the same place as his son, he will be able to watch him on the multiple security cameras set up around the "smart" home.

After returning to Mid-Missouri when he recovered from an overseas sniper's fire which left him paralyzed, Huffman and his wife, Mellisa, lived in a home that posed some challenges for Tyler.

Those challenges included carpeting and areas of the home that were difficult to manuever through for Huffman's wheelchair.

When the Huffmans first sought help for their housing situation, they expected minor modifications to an existing home, Tyler Huffman told the crowd.

"This has made a huge difference in our lives," he said.
