Salvation Army raised $11,000 during holiday Red Kettle drive

Red Kettle bell ringers for the newly-formed Salvation Army Extension Unit in Fulton collected more than $11,000 during December.

"We are overjoyed with the amount collected. We had set a goal of collecting $5,000 and we more than doubled our goal," said Marta Carpenter, a board member of the new Callaway County Salvation Army.

Carpenter said 95 people in the community volunteered for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle bell-ringing collections. That included people who rang bells and collected donations as well as others who worked behind the scenes.

She said no one was paid to ring bells for collections. In Callaway County, the Salvation Army Red Kettle collections are intended to be strictly a volunteer effort.

Volunteers collected outside Walmart and C&R Market in Fulton during December.
