CALWOOD - Those attending this year's Town and Country Dinner got a real whiff of the feed business - literally.
When Twillman Feed Service can produce 16 tons of feed an hour, there's bound to be the smell of grain in the air.
Kenny Twillman, owner of the business, his son, Bryan Twillman, and other employees gave event guests tours of the business Tuesday evening before a meal was served. The dinner, held in Calwood this year, serves as a fundraiser for the chamber and introduces community members to various agricultural businesses and farms.
Bryan Twillman showed his group around the feed plant and told them the "bagging bin" can bag five tons of feed a day. He added that the business manufactures 500 tons of feed a week, and the silos can store up to 300,000 bushels of grain on site. Twillman, 28, said he's been helping his father in the business since his legs were long enough to reach a clutch. He said he hopes those who came to the event will come away with "a better understanding of what we do."
