Owls tumble to NCAA Division II Miners 79-62 in exhibition

ROLLA - NCAA Division II Missouri S&T placed four players in double figures and shot 57 percent in the second half Tuesday night as the Miners downed the William Woods University Owls 79-62 in an exhibition game.

William Woods got off to a fast start, scoring the game's first 11 points, and was in front 18-13 with 13 minutes, 2 seconds remaining in the first half. Missouri S&T, though, rallied to take a 40-32 halftime lead.

The Miners then took control in the second half, hitting 12-of-21 shots from the field and 11-of-13 free-throw attempts.

Sophomore guard Jonathon Nutt posted a double-double to pace the Owls, ending up with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Nutt was 6-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. William Woods was edged on the boards 43-42.

Junior guard Logan Decker also supplied 11 points for the Owls, who shot 36 percent (25-of-69) as a team and recorded 16 turnovers.

Tommy Pelczynski countered with a game-high 20 points to direct Missouri S&T, which shot 42 percent (26-of-62) for the game and ended up with 14 turnovers. Bryce Foster provided 13 points, Filmore Bouldes had 11 and Curtis Okafor chipped in with 10.

William Woods travels to Fayette to face Central Methodist University at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
