KINGDOM CITY - Smack-dab in the middle of their playoff run, the North Callaway Thunderbirds had their football banquet Wednesday night. Fun was had and recognition was given out.
But Thunderbirds head coach Mike Emmons wasn't about to let anyone forget that their work wasn't quite done yet.
"We did a few festivities there, but the No. 1 thing is to get yourself together health-wise and get back to business," Emmons said Thursday afternoon. "Everything is fine, but it was business as usual."
North Callaway (8-4) - winners of seven straight and eight of its last nine - will return its attention to the playoffs when it hosts No. 3-ranked School of the Osage (12-0) in the Class 3 quarterfinals Saturday. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.
The Thunderbirds are coming off a 24-0 sectional win over Southern Boone on Monday night at Kingdom City, their second victory over the Eagles in a 12-day span.
North Callaway's defense controlled the game from start to finish, handing Southern Boone its only shutout loss of the season and holding the Eagles to a season-low 122 yards rushing.
