Bagby guest speaker at vets' dinner

One of Fulton's most prominent sons will return home this weekend.

Maj. Gen. Byron S. Bagby, who retired last month after more than 33 years of service with the U.S. Army, will serve as the guest speaker at the 93rd Annual Veterans Banquet hosted by American Legion Post 210 and VFW Post 2657 Friday.

The event will start with dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW, followed by the program featuring Bagby at approximately 7:15.

Bagby, a Fulton native, has served in Afghanistan, Egypt, Germany, Korea and The Netherlands and has experience in five of the Army's 10 divisions, including infantry, mountain and airborne units, with combat experience in Grenada and Afghanistan. He has served as Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army stationed in Europe and as commandant of the Joint Forces Staff College, as well as two tours in the Pentagon, on the Joint Staff and the Army Staff. His final assignment was as director of operations, Joint Force Command with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, where he supervised more than 200 people from 24 nations on all operational planning and policy development requirements.

Bagby is qualified as an Army Ranger, a Master Parachutist and has been awarded two Distinguished Service Medals and four Defense Superior Service Medals.
