Talbot's ejection sparks Wildcats

New Bloomfield senior pitcher Aaron Bedsworth congratulates junior third baseman Skyler Lucas after he scored on senior left fielder Daniel Berry's two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning. Berry's double put the Wildcats up 3-1 and New Bloomfield went on to edge Charleston 4-3 in the Class 2 semifinals Wednesday afternoon at Meador Park in Springfield.

Brandon Talbot stood under a tree.

Just north of Talbot on the baseball diamond at Meador Park, he saw his team: jubilant, relieved and victorious. The New Bloomfield Wildcats had just punched their ticket to the Class 2 state championship game.

But Talbot couldn't celebrate with them then and he won't be able to get much closer than that tree if New Bloomfield wins the school's seventh state baseball title later today.

Talbot is limited to that tree or whatever landmarks exist outside the actual stadium. And all he wanted was a clarification on balls and strikes.
