Fritz finishes third, Pae fifth, Curtis sixth

The Fulton Hornets closed out the 81st MSHSAA Wrestling Championships by producing a trio of medalists Saturday.

Senior Ryan Fritz topped off his high school career by taking third place at 171 pounds in Class 2, while sophomore Cody Pae finished fifth at 125. Senior Josh Curtis also concluded his career with the Hornets by placing sixth at 140 pounds.

Fritz (34-2) prevailed by pinning Bolivar junior Aaron Allen in 1 minute, 52 seconds. Meanwhile, Pae (40-6) manhandled Odessa sophomore Nate Leonard with a 16-1 technical fall.

Curtis (26-4) was pinned by Moberly senior Tahlor Fowlkes in 3:43.

Fulton's two other wrestlers who reached the quarterfinals - junior Zack McClure at 130 pounds and sophomore Drew Benner at 145 - were eliminated in third-round wrestlebacks Friday night.

The Hornets' two wrestlers who also made it to Friday's competition - senior Sean Luetkemeyer at 189 pounds and freshman John Kingsley at 152 - bowed out after losses in second-round wrestlebacks.
