Wanting to bring attention to his cause, Jason Houston set two large, painted signs out in front of his house.
What he did not expect was the City of Fulton to send him a notice telling him to remove the signs, because they violated sections of the city's sign ordinance.
Not happy with the legal system's efforts in an incident involving the alleged abuse of his 2-year-old son, Jason Houston said he put the signs up, at 608 Bluff St., to caution people about his son's baby sitter, the alleged abuser. He also said the signs - which one reads "do not re-elect C. Wilson" - were set out to spark Chris Wilson, Callaway County prosecuting attorney, into action.
Houston put up the signs on Nov. 24, not long after Wilson refused to file charges against the woman Houston alleges physically assaulted his child.
In a letter dated Nov. 29, Les Hudson, Fulton director of planning and protective services, outlines the sections of the city's ordinance that he said the signs violate.
Hudson said Monday that the letter was sent after he had repeated complaints about the signs from the same individual. After looking into the incident, Hudson said, "In my estimation, it's an illegal sign."
