Auxvasse seeks grant to supply water services

April 28th, 2011 in News

In order to save cost to the city, Auxvasse is seeking a federal grant to assist with providing water services.

Representatives from Allstate Consultants of Columbia, the city's engineers, have been in discussions with the city's board members on how to best supply water to a property located within city limits on the east side of 54 Highway near Route B. The property is owned by Jim Niemeyer who would like to rent out a building on the property for commercial use.

City Clerk Missy Hooks said the city is required to provide water to properties within city limits and is applying for a Rural Business Enterprise Grant to pay for the cost of providing water services to Niemeyer's property.

During Tuesday evening's Board of Alderman meeting, members voted to approve Allstate's preliminary engineering report and agreement contract for the property, so the company could begin the grant application process.

Allstate and the city will work together to seek the grant, which is available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development to communities of a population of 50,000 of less.

Board members also approved an ordinance to rezone the property where a proposed Dollar General store would be constructed. The 1.44 acre tract of land that was recently annexed within city limits was rezoned for commercial use at the meeting. The property is located on the north side of Route E, east of Casey's General Store.
