Trials for two defendants in cases involving the death of Carl DeBrodie were rescheduled Monday.

Sherry Paulo and Mary Paulo appeared in court for pre-trial conferences, and each motioned to continue. The motions were granted without objection.

Mary Paulo's trial had been set for Thursday but has been pushed back. Her motion cited "personal reasons." A status hearing has was set for May 20.

She is charged with making a false report or false statement of a missing person, a class A misdemeanor. She has pleaded not guilty.

Sherry Paulo's trial had also been scheduled for Thursday and has been rescheduled for sometime after August due to pending federal charges. She is charged with abandonment of a corpse, a class D misdemeanor; two counts of making a false report or false statement of a missing person; involuntary manslaughter, a class C felony; and patient/client abuse/neglect, a class D felony, and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Mary Paulo is currently out on bail; Sherry Paulo remains in custody.

DeBrodie's supporters say they hope the delay to Sherry Paulo's trial is a sign federal charges will arrive soon. Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wilson has previously stated federal prosecutors and investigators are planning charges in the case.

"It's taking too long, but if we get the federal charges they'll serve more time," said Mary Martin, DeBrodie's former legal guardian of several years.

DeBrodie was 31 years old when his remains were found hidden in a Fulton storage unit April 24, 2017, about a week after he was reported missing. He was a developmentally disabled resident of Second Chance Homes, a care facility at 298 Claymine Drive in Fulton tasked with and paid to give him a home.

Sherry and Mary Paulo, along with fellow defendants Anthony R. Flores, Anthony R.K. Flores and Shaina Osborne, were all employees of Second Chance. In late February, Anthony R.K. Flores and Osborne pleaded guilty to making a false report or false statement of a missing person.

The elder Flores faces the same charges as Sherry Paulo and has pleaded not guilty. His trial is set for March 27, although a continuance is possible.
