Fulton resident Megan Morse has been chosen as the new Callaway County Circuit Clerk.
Gov. Eric Greitens made the appointment Friday, according to a news release from his office. Morse has worked in the Callaway County Circuit Clerk's office for 10 years, and served as chief deputy clerk before her recent appointment. She's a graduate of New Bloomfield High School.
Morse was on the ballot to run for the office in 2019, but as no one filed to oppose her, Circuit Clerk Judy Groner decided to retire early, Morse explained. Groner had served eight years as circuit clerk.
"It was the end of her term," Morse said.
Morse will be sworn in after Groner retires, either late May 31 or June 1, she said.
"I love my job," Morse said. " I love dealing with the people. Nothing is ever the same - every case we deal with is different."
One big goal Morse has for her tenure as circuit clerk is digitizing old records.
"We're an e-file court now," she said. "I'd like to get our old files scanned in so we don't have to search for them."
