Two Callaway County residents were arrested during a traffic stop Thursday, according to Lt. Curtis Hall of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Ryan Kirk, 23, of New Bloomfield, was driving a vehicle on old U.S. 54 north of Holts Summit, with Samantha Evers, 32, of Holts Summit, as a passenger, Hall said. At about 3:30 a.m., a deputy observed a traffic violation and pulled over the vehicle.

During the stop, Kirk was identified as the suspect of an Aug. 1 theft at a New Bloomfield business, Hall said. He was arrested for felony stealing and driving while suspended.

Hall added Evers was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance after being found to have methamphetamine.

Kirk and Evers were transported to the Callaway County Jail. Kirk's bond was set at $2,000 and Evers' at $4,500, Hall said. Both posted their bonds.

More charges could be added as the investigation continues.
