Several months after it was announced Fulton would receive a dedicated shoe store, Shoe Sensation officials have set an opening date.

Officials will gather for a 9 a.m. grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony March 22 with Callaway Chamber of Commerce officials. The company is growing in smaller markets in a big way, according to Taylor A. McAdams, public relations coordinator.

"We're opening eight stores at the same time," she said. "We have about 175 stores. Fulton will be the 23rd store in Missouri."

Shoe Sensation officials also are opening new stores in Clinton and Sedalia. There is already a store in Mexico. The company is headquartered in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The Fulton location will be in a space formerly occupied by Dollar Tree in the Churchill shopping center next to Walmart.

"We go into a lot of small towns like the size of Fulton, so people don't have to go to the big city," McAdams said. "I grew up in a Shoe Sensation town."

Each store is staffed with local management who are qualified to make decisions based on the local community's needs. Shoe Sensation outlets typically have two full-time managers and eight part timers.

"That's the goal" for Fulton, she added.

Footwear of all types is offered for women, children and men, including specialized safety-type footwear.

"We try to keep our prices down low so they are affordable," McAdams said.

Shoe Sensation stores carry a mix of nationally branded footwear including Under Armour, Nike, Clarks, Skechers and others. Customer service is a hallmark of the company, McAdams said.

In addition to a variety of styles of footwear from work shoes and boots to athletic and dress styles, the shop will also offer a wide range of accessories including socks and shoe care items, fashion and athletic accessories, and backpacks.

"Everyone at Shoe Sensation is excited about the opportunity to serve the community of Fulton," said Sue Vousden, community outreach manager who will visit Fulton about a week before the store opening. "We look forward to assisting our customers with their footwear needs as well as becoming an active part of the community."
