Fulton students are safe after some schools in the district were put on lock-down status Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of  possible shots fired in the area of East 7th and State streets at 1:13 p.m. Responding officers spoke with several people in the area and did find a single shell casing in a parking lot, according to Lt. Bill Ladwig of the Fulton Police Department.

"As a precaution, schools in the area of the call were advised of this incident and asked to take precautions on their campuses," Ladwig said in a news release.

Parents of Fulton students received notices from school officials about the situation at 1:43 p.m. The schools were cleared about 10 minutes later, but Bush Elementary locked down again briefly just after 2 p.m. when a parent reported hearing another shot or shots.

The area of interest was also reported to be near the Missouri School for the Deaf, according to reports. An official there said they locked their outer doors for about 30 minutes.

Officers could not locate any other evidence related to what was reported and no injuries were reported to police or the local hospital, according to Ladwig.
