PORTLAND - A Portland man, suspected of attempting to stab two people, was arrested on multiple charges Sunday.

Mitchell Byrne, 53, is charged with first-degree felony assault, third-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon. According to sheriff's Lt. Curtis Hall, Byrne remains incarcerated in the Callaway County Jail on a bond of $50,000.

The incident was reported to Callaway County Sheriff's Officials at 10:53 p.m. Saturday. Deputies responded to a disturbance in the 10400 block of Highway 94 in Portland where reports said a suspect attempted to stab two people with a knife. One victim had minor injuries and declined medical treatment, Hall said.

Deputies located and arrested Byrne, who was transported to a local hospital for injuries he sustained prior to deputies arrival. The investigation is ongoing, Hall said.
