Fulton Public Schools to host family support event

Fulton Public Schools will host a free family-support event for kids and their caretakers at 1-3 p.m. Friday at John C. Harris Community Center.

FPS director of early childhood development Jen Meyerhoff said the event started small but grew during its planning.

"We got a mental health grant through the University of Missouri," she said. "While working with staff to figure out what to do, the event just got bigger and bigger."

The event now features 12 booths, each focusing on a different aspect of a guardian's child, including:

  • Home safety,
  • The benefits of preschool, and a sign up,
  • Dental care,
  • WIC,
  • FPS teachers,
  • The benefits of vaccination,
  • Calm-down strategies,
  • A sign up for the Affordable Care Act.

Meyerhoff said as participants visit booths, they will receive a raffle ticket for one of their many door prizes.

"We will have a drawing for a prize every 15 minutes," she said. "The prizes include Bek's gift cards and donated items from Remade for a Purpose, as well as food, health and toy baskets. We have a lot of different prizes."

Free popcorn and bottled water will also be available, Meyerhoff said, to boost participation.

"We would love to have a large attendance," she said. "We have a lot of resources available, and we really want people to take advantage of them."

The event is open to anyone who is caring for a child.
