Man shot Sunday in south Callaway County

Shooting occurred at biker club event

A Jefferson City man said he was shot at a social event in Callway County after he went to a hospital for treatment, according to Callaway County Sheriff Clay Chism and Lt. Curtis Hall.

The sheriff's office was notified of the incident at 1:22 a.m. Sunday. The unnamed 23-year-old male was interviewed at a Jefferson City hospital. Preliminary information provided said the victim was shot at a social gathering in the 1800 block of State Road 94, just outside of Jefferson City in Callaway County.

According to a sheriff's office press release, Callaway deputies, Jefferson City Police Department officers and Missouri Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene and encountered several subjects. Through the initial scene investigation, officers determined a motorcycle club was hosting a social event with between 30 and 50 persons at the offense location. Reportedly, a physical disturbance erupted between several individuals, leading to the subsequent shooting. Several of the subjects were not local to Jefferson City or Callaway County, but were from the St. Louis area and other states.

The victim was later transferred to the University Hospital in Columbia where he as treated for his injuries and released, according to Chism and Hall.

The investigation is ongoing and investigators continue to follow leads. Holts Summit Police also assisted.
