Fulton woman arrested after July 4 car theft

A Fulton woman was arrested Monday in connection with a reported car theft near Mokane on July 4, according to Lt. Clay Chism of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Courtney Hutchason, 27, was in custody Tuesday afternoon at the Callaway County Jail on a $9,000 bond, charged with stealing a motor vehicle and previous charges of tampering with a motor vehicle and driving with a revoked operator's license.

On July 4, sheriff's deputies investigated a stolen vehicle complaint in the 10000 block of State Road C near Mokane. A homeowner reported a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer had been stolen from a residential driveway. At the time of theft, the vehicle was unsecured with the keys inside the vehicle.

On July 5, the stolen vehicle was recovered in Centralia, Chism said. Callaway County deputies, in conjunction with the Centralia Police Department, continued the investigation.

On Monday, Callaway County deputies arrested Hutchason at a residence in the 5000 block of Oak Lane near Fulton.

The investigation is ongoing.
