Columbia man treated after Friday wreck

A Columbia man was taken to University Hospital in Columbia Friday night after he received serious injuries in a two-vehicle accident just north of Jefferson City.

The hospital said Saturday it had no information about his treatment. Under the federal HIPPA law, that information can't be released or discussed without a patient's approval.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Kevin D. Vaughn, 34, of Columbia, was southbound on U.S. 63 at 9:08 p.m. Friday, in a 1989 Chevrolet S-10, when the truck was hit from behind by a 2014 Volkswagen CC driven by Chad R. Walkenbach, 34, of Jefferson City.

The collision pushed Vaughn's truck off the left side of the road, and it overturned. Walkenbach's car was stopped by the median cable, the patrol said.

The accident happened just south of the Katy Trail overpass.

Walkenbach was wearing a seat belt. The patrol said it wasn't known if Vaughn was wearing one.
