MU Extension Ag programs set for winter

Agriculture and other specialists in southwest Missouri working with University of Missouri Extension are planning a large number of winter trainings and conferences covering a variety of timely agriculture and horticulture topics.

The list of programs is growing daily. A regularly updated list can be found at http://extension.missouri.edu/greene.

Here are the January events that are known at this time but keep checking back. Several conferences are still in the planning stages including cattle health workshop for Greene County.

93rd Annual Lawrence County Soils & Crops Conference, Jan. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Southwest Research Center, 14548 Highway H, Mt. Vernon. Cost is $5 if pre-registered by Jan. 3 and $10 after that deadline. Program topics include a Southwest Center Update, Beef Market Outlook for 2017, Round Bale Silage Farmer Panel, and The ABC's of BSE's - Lessons Learned from Breeding Soundness Exams. Growing the Grower Series: Getting Started in Small Ruminant Production (Sheep and Goats), Jan. 9, 6-8 p.m., Stone County Library, 106 E. 5th St, Galena. There is a $5 charge, preregistration requested by calling Sara Wikoff at 417-334-4544 ext. 252 or by emailing to [email protected].

Master Beekeeping Level 1 Class - "Introduction to Bees and Beekeeping," 8 a.m. to noon, Jan. 14 at Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave., Springfield. Cost of the class is $61 for required book and class materials. Dan Cropper, certified beekeeper from West Plains, will be teaching this University of Missouri designed class and curriculum. Dade County Forage and Crop Conference, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lockwood United Methodist Life Center. Cost is $5 per person with dinner included. Register by calling 417-637-2112 before Jan 13. Speaker topics include Johnson Grass Control, Basic Pasture Weed Management, 2017 Soybean Weed Management.
