Fulton Police Department to host presentation for new drivers, parents

The Fulton Police Department will host a First Impact presentation to teach parents and teens about risks while driving.

The event will be 6-7:30 p.m. April 30 at Fulton Recreation Center (808 State Street). Speakers for the class will be Sgt. Dough Ruediger with the Jefferson City Police Department, and Sgt. Jesse Schmidt with the Fulton Police Department.

The free program will provide parents of new drivers with tools to monitor, coach and support them.

First Impact will also discuss Missouri's Graduated Driver License (GDL) law.

According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, the GDL law requires "all first-time drivers between 15 and 18 years old complete a period of driving with a licensed driver (instruction permit), and restricted driving (intermediate license), before getting a full driver license."

Registration for the event is required and can be completed online at signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4EA5A92CA3FDc16-48281447-keeping.
