South Callaway MS track and field places third at Blair Oaks Invitational

WARDSVILLE--South Callaway Middle School girls track and field team placed third out of nine teams in its first meet this season, the Blair Oaks Invitational, held Friday at Blair Oaks High School.

The Lady Bulldogs scored 55 points, 141 behind first-place Eldon. Host Blair Oaks finished second with 120 points.

"What a great night at Blair Oaks -- it was a blast for us to see our middle schoolers get a chance to compete!" South Callaway track and field coach Stephen Wisch said. "While we didn't get as lucky with weather as the high school did yesterday, it was still a good day for our young Bulldogs to compete and do their best!"

A top-six finish was required to medal at the invitational.

South Callaway's 4x200-meter relay team of Katlyn Dickinson, Brantley Henry, Ashlyn Jenkins, and Destiny Mealy took first with a time of 2 minutes and 3.87 seconds. The Lady Bulldogs dominated the relays, with their 4x100 squad of Hayden House, Henry, Jenkins and Mealy placing second at :57.19.

Mealy earned silver in the pole vault at 6 feet and 5.95 inches and fourth in the 100 dash (14.11).

Henry in the long jump (12-2.46), House in the triple jump (26-7.29), and Dickinson in the pole vault (6-5.95) also finished fourth for the Lady Bulldogs.

Last but not least, of South Callaway's eight medalist showings, Jenkins placed fifth in the 100 dash (:14.17).

"The great thing about the first meet is that everyone sets their bar to try and PR the rest of the season," Wisch said. "Looking forward to an awesome rest of our middle school season."

The Lady Bulldogs return to the track for the Hermann Open Tuesday at Hermann High School.
