South Callaway MS boys T&F earns five medals at Blair Oaks Invitational

WARDSVILLE -- South Callaway Middle School boys track and field tallied five medalist placings in the Blair Oaks Invitational Friday at Blair Oaks High School.

A top-six place in individual and top-three in relays was required to medal at the invitational.

The Bulldogs finished fifth out of eight teams with 43½ points. California won the team trophy with 175 points, Blair Oaks finished second with 101½, and Eldon took third with 99.

"What a great night at Blair Oaks -- it was a blast for us to see our middle schoolers get a chance to compete!" South Callaway track and field coach Stephen Wisch said. "While we didn't get as lucky with weather as the high school did yesterday, it was still a good day for our young Bulldogs to compete and do their best!"

Braydon Willenburg earned gold in the 100-meter hurdles for South Callaway, clocking in at 16.9 seconds.

In two events, the Bulldogs received bronze medals, South Callaway's 4x100 relay team of Parker Pahl, Gavin Bushdiecker, Evan Fort, and Brock Caruthers (:55.87) and Kyle Bohnert in the pole vault (6-5.95).

Caruthers finished fourth in the 200 dash (:27.86) and triple jump (30-10.08).

South Callaway's Josh Bell medaled with a fifth-place performance in the 400 dash (1:07.52).

"The great thing about the first meet is that everyone sets their bar to try and PR the rest of the season," Wisch said. "Looking forward to an awesome rest of our middle school season."

The Bulldogs compete in the Hermann Open on Tuesday at Hermann High School.
