Fulton T&F’s Evans finishes first in two events at California Quad

CALIFORNIA, Mo. -- Fulton girls track and field continued its excellent start to the season, winning nine events in the California Quad Thursday at California High School.

No medals or team scores were included in Thursday's competition.

Hornets senior Emery Mayfield set the school record in the 3,200-meter run at 11 minutes and 17.27 seconds, breaking Kari Haus's record of 11:24.61 back in 2000. Mayfield also shattered Haus's school record in the 5,000 during cross country season this past fall.

Grace Evans guided the Hornets, winning the discus (85 feet and 2.44 inches) and shot put (27-2.38).

Outside of Mayfield and Evans, Fulton's first-place finishes were Jozhanae Long in the 100 dash (:13.34), Mackenzie McDaniel in the 800 run (2:44.3), the Hornets' 4x100 relay team (:54.26), Audrey Arnold in the high jump (4-9.87), Emmy Begemann in the triple jump (32-8.91) and Shelby Studer in the pole vault (6-5.95).

Accounting for Fulton's five second-place performances were Paris Benson in the 100 dash (:13.41), McDaniel in the 400 dash (1:07.39), Ava Santhuff in the 3,200 run (14:09.48), Arnold in the triple jump (31-0.83) and Taijhea Logan in the discus (74-10.82).

The Hornets also had five third-place displays: Talyn Clark in the 200 dash (:29), Kinsley Rentschler in the 400 dash (1:08.09), Addison Milius in the 100 hurdles (:18.43), Begemann in the long jump (15-5.83) and Greta Patten in the pole vault (6-0.05).

Fulton's next meet is at 9 a.m. on March 30 at Holt High School in Wentzville.
