Track and Field: North Callaway girls take fourth at EMO meet

MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. — Sophomore Reyna Schmauch and senior Erinn Bush were named the Eastern Missouri Conference distance runner and thrower of the year, respectively, as the Ladybirds came in fourth at the conference championships Tuesday.

In the boys’ division, senior Will Crawford won the pole vault with a leap of 12 feet even to pace North Callaway to a fifth-place finish.

Schmauch triumphed in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters with respective times of 5 minutes, 34.62 seconds, and 12 minutes, 18.85 seconds, as the North Callaway girls compiled 89.66 points. Bush took second in both the discus (103-10) and shot put (32-10 1/2).

Senior Bethany Bloss also placed third in the shot (32-6 3/4) for the Ladybirds, while freshman Mackenzie Ausfahl finished third in the triple jump (30-9) and sophomore Kyla Bertschinger was fourth in the 400 (1:06.75). Sophomore Colleen Meffert came in fourth in the 300 hurdles (:51.06) and junior Nichole Kelly took fourth in the high jump (4-8).

North Callaway’s 400 relay of Bertschinger, sophomore Kallie Jo Lehenbauer, freshman Kenzie Ausfahl and junior Jaclyn McMurtry finished third in :56.56, while the 1,600 relay of McMurtry, Meffert, Bertschinger and freshman Heather Thurman was third in 4:33.11. The Ladybirds’ 800 relay of Lehenbauer, Meffert, Ausfahl and McMurtry came in fourth in 1:56.98.

Senior Manzell Payne took second in the long jump (19-7 3/4), third in the triple jump (40-3 3/4) and fourth in the high jump (5-8) as the North Callaway boys accumulated 75 points. Junior Levi Gilman produced a pair of third-place finishes in the 110 hurdles (:16.53) and 300 hurdles (:44.79).

The quartet of Crawford, Gilman and sophomores Davian Locastro and Skyler Barker also came in third in both the 400 and 800 relays with respective times of :47.46 and 1:38.52.

Bowling Green pulled off a sweep of the EMO boys’ and girls’ team titles with 158 and 156.50 points, respectively.

North Callaway competes at the Centralia Open at 4 p.m. Monday.
