Eleven Callaway basketball players pick up media acclaim

Eleven Callaway County players - six girls and five boys - were named to the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters' 2015-16 all-Central District basketball teams announced Wednesday.

Selected to the Class 4 girls' squad from Fulton were senior guard Sloane Totta and senior forward NaShayla Brandt. Chosen to the Class 4 boys' team were Fulton senior guard Kalin Mitchell and senior forward Deangelo Walker.

New Bloomfield senior guard Grant Nichols and sophomore forward Jak Kitchens were first-team picks on the Class 2 boys' squad, while New Bloomfield sophomore guard Madi Craighead was a first-team choice on the Class 2 girls' team.

South Callaway sophomore forward Adrian Mann and junior center Konnor Arrowood were both first-team selections on the Class 3 girls' team, while North Callaway senior guard Madi Ausfahl was a second-team pick. South Callaway sophomore forward Kaden Helsel was a second-team choice on the Class 3 boys' squad.

Totta - a first-team all-North Central Missouri Conference selection - was also named to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association's Class 4 all-state team released Wednesday night. She averaged 19.0 points this season in becoming the Lady Hornets' all-time leading scorer, and also averaged 4.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals.

Brandt, also a first-team all-NCMC pick, averaged 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals as Fulton finished the season with a 17-10 record.

A first-team all-NCMC performer, Mitchell averaged 14.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists to help steer the Hornets to a 14-11 record. Walker - a second-team all-NCMC choice - averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds.

Nichols, a first-team all-Show-Me Conference selection, averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals as the Wildcats went 23-4. Kitchens joined Nichols on the all-SMC first team, averaging 16.2 points and 9.0 rebounds.

Craighead - also an all-SMC first-team pick - averaged 15.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in helping spark the Lady Wildcats to a 19-9 record.

Mann also received all-SMC first-team status, averaging 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.5 assists as the Lady Bulldogs logged an 18-8 record. Arrowood, a second-team all-SMC choice, averaged 12.1 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks.

Ausfahl - selected to the all-Eastern Missouri Conference first team - averaged 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Ladybirds, who finished 12-12.

Helsel, a second-team all-SMC pick, averaged 17.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals as the Bulldogs ended the season with a 9-16 record.
