Wildcats track team comes in second at Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE - Seniors Charlie Schattgen and Leo Ramirez, and freshman Bailey Crane all picked up victories Tuesday as the New Bloomfield Wildcats track and field team launched its season with a second-place finish at the Russellville Quad.

In the girls' division, junior Kate Baxter and sophomore Kassi O'Dowd both tallied second-place finishes as the Lady Wildcats came in ninth overall.

Schattgen won the 3,200 meters in 11 minutes, 32.24 seconds as the New Bloomfield boys compiled 94.33 points. Ramirez was victorious in the discus with a throw of 132 feet, 8 inches, while Crane triumphed in the 400 in :55.09.

Crane was also part of the Wildcats' 800 relay - along with sophomore Payton Culwell, junior Zain Culwell and sophomore Clay Walker - that took first place in 1:39.44. Crane then teamed with Payton Culwell, sophomore Kyle Emerson and Schattgen to win the 3,200 relay in 9:16.09.

Zain Culwell produced second-place finishes in both the long jump (19-7 1/2) and triple jump (38-0), while Payton Culwell came in second in the 400 (:55.72). Ramirez also took third in the shot put (40-1).

The quartet of Payton Culwell, Crane, Zain Culwell and Walker also placed second in the 1,600 relay in 3:42.79. The 400 relay of sophomore Austin Carrier, senior Christian Eickhorst, junior Bradley Roddy and Walker finished third in :49.74.

Baxter came in second in the 100 hurdles (:18.17) and O'Dowd placed second in the 3,200 (14:21.78) as the New Bloomfield girls collected 35 points. Baxter also took fourth in the 300 hurdles (:54.52).

Junior Baylee Garrett finished third in the high jump (4-8) and freshman Samantha Haas came in fourth in the triple jump (31-5).

Host Russellville swept the boys' and girls' team titles with 124 and 110 points, respectively.

The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats compete at the North Callaway Invitational at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 29.
