Blue Jays fall prey to Greenville's 3-pointers

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Westminster College Blue Jays were doomed by the Greenville College Panthers' 17 3-pointers in Wednesday night's 114-97 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss.

Despite the loss, Westminster College (7-10, 7-4) remained in a three-way tie for first place in the SLIAC with Iowa Wesleyan University and MacMurray (Ill.) College.

Greenville College (7-11, 6-5 SLIAC) took a narrow 53-51 lead into halftime, but pulled away by connecting on 10-of-23 attemps (44 percent) from behind the arc in the second half. The Panthers shot 41 percent (17-of-42) from 3-point range overall in splitting the season series with the Blue Jays.

Sophomore forward Nick Carlos tallied 17 points to spark four players in double figures for Westminster, which shot 52 percent (35-of-67) from the field. Sophomore forward Romo Tabb produced 16 points, while freshman guard Carter Wands and sophomore guard Jimmy Villalobos came up with 15 apiece.

Villalobos grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to carry the Blue Jays to a 54-40 advantage on the boards.

Michael Hohm countered with a game-high 21 points for Greenville, which shot 45 percent (39-of-86) overall. Tim Daniel provided 18 points, Kenny Greene put up 16, Shane Smith contributed 12 and Andrew Scott added 10.

Westminster travels to Iowa Wesleyan for a SLIAC showdown at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Blue Jays beat the Tigers 94-82 on Dec. 12 in Fulton.
