Hornets throttle Owensville, win fourth in a row

Mitchell guides Fulton with 18 points

OWENSVILLE - The Fulton Hornets relied on a punishing defensive effort to keep their winning streak on the move.

Fulton allowed Owensville to score just 19 points combined over the final three quarters Friday night and the Hornets collected their fourth straight victory, battering the Dutchmen 58-30 in a non-conference encounter.

Fulton owned a slight 13-11 edge after one quarter, but then outscored Owensville 16-4 in the second quarter to build a 29-15 advantage at the break. The Hornets carried a 39-22 lead into the fourth quarter and turned the game into a runaway by outscoring the Dutchmen 19-8 over the last 8 minutes.

"Collectively, we played a great defensive game," Fulton head coach Justin Gilmore said. "We sat down and kept our man in front of us; we forced a lot of shots over us, but we didn't give up layups."

Senior guard Kalin Mitchell responded with 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to guide the Hornets. Senior forward Deangelo Walker also supplied 13 points.

"We were able to rebound and run, and get some easy baskets in transition," Gilmore said. "We also knocked down some big shots against their 2-3 zone (defense)."

Logan Moritz was responsible for the majority of Owensville's output in logging a game-high 19 points.

Fulton will try to continue its surge when it plays a makeup game against Battle in Columbia at 6 p.m. Monday.

"The guys are just buying in and gelling together - it's awesome to watch," Gilmore said. "They're starting to pick it up. Hopefully we can keep riding this wave."
