2014 chase leads to prison sentence

A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to prison for pleading guilty to a charge in connection with a 2014 high-speed chase along highways and gravel roads in Callaway County.

Stanley Ronimous Jr., 47, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance. A second charge of possession of a controlled substance, along with charges of resisting arrest, driving while suspended, possession of marijuana, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle were all dismissed.

While his initial sentence was five years in prison with credit for time served, a report was ordered to see if he was eligible for shock incarceration.

According to the Callaway County Sheriff's Department, a deputy saw a minivan driven by Ronimous leaving a utility substation and when he failed to dim its headlights, the deputy attempted to pull Ronimous over, at which time a chase began.

The chase reached speeds of 90 miles per hour in the Tebbetts/Holts Summit area of southern Callaway County. When Ronimous was eventually arrested, he was found in possession of more than 12 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and other controlled substances, including marijuana and hydrocodone.
