Missouri receives $1M for road, bridge repairs after floods

Missouri is getting an initial $1 million in federal funding to help repair roads and bridges damaged by flooding.

The Federal Highway Administration on Friday announced the emergency relief funding.

Federal Highway Administrator Gregory Nadeau said the money is meant to help with the most critical repairs as the state continues to assess damage.

Nadeau said more resources will become available.

Attorney general: Beware of flood cleanup scams

Missouri Attorney General's office representatives are in flood-ravaged parts of the state starting Friday, offering tips to help victims avoid clean-up scams and price-gouging.

Representatives from the office will help flood victims select reputable contractors as they begin to recovery from the devastating flood that occurred after three days of heavy rain last month. More than 7,000 homes in the St. Louis area and southeast Missouri were damaged.

Attorney General Chris Koster said unscrupulous people often take advantage of natural disasters, including cleanup firms that require money up front, then leave without doing the work.

Resource centers will be open today and Sunday in House Springs, Monday and Tuesday in Pacific, and Thursday and Friday in Manchester. Specific locations are available at www.ago.mo.gov.
