Southern Boone ousts Bulldogs in Class 3, District 8 play

ASHLAND - The No. 7 seed South Callaway Bulldogs were outscored by the No. 2 Southern Boone Eagles 42-22 in the second and third quarters combined in Tuesday night's 83-62 first-round loss at the Class 3, District 8 Tournament.

South Callaway owned a 19-17 lead after one quarter, but was outscored by state-ranked Southern Boone 19-10 in the second quarter and trailed 36-29 at halftime. The Eagles then took control by outscoring the Bulldogs 23-12 in the third quarter to increase their lead to 59-41.

Senior guard Logan Taylor tallied 16 points - making all eight free-throw attempts - to pace four players in double figures for South Callaway, which finished its season with a 9-16 record. Sophomore guards Kaden Helsel and Dylan Lepper also supplied 14 and 12 points, respectively, while junior guard Blake Parker contributed 10.

Maguire Scheer countered with a game-high 19 points to lead three players in double figures for Southern Boone, ranked No. 7 in Class 2 by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. Gannon Mueller was next with 18 points and Gage Schupp tacked on 14.
