Thunderbirds fall to Elsberry in EMO loss

KINGDOM CITY - The Elsberry Indians closed the game on an 11-3 run to hand the North Callaway Thunderbirds a 53-38 Eastern Missouri Conference loss Friday night.

North Callaway (2-16, 1-5 EMO) pulled within 42-35 in the fourth quarter, but then went scoreless on five straight possessions as Elsberry took control.

Sophomore guard Coy Danison directed the Thunderbirds with a game-high 16 points, while senior guard Manzell Payne contributed 12.

Zach Rimel and Tyler Turnbull paced Elsberry (10-11, 4-2) with 15 points apiece and Gavin Hill added 10.

North Callaway (10-5) lost the junior varsity game 41-33. Freshman guard Khobi Kellerman finished with a team-high 11 points.

The Thunderbirds host Wright City in an EMO game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
