COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri men's basketball players Jakeenan Gant and Russell Woods were arrested Wednesday for possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Gant, a sophomore wing, and Woods, a junior forward, have been suspended for Missouri's game Saturday at Alabama. Their status will be reevaluated next week.
Columbia Police Department detectives secured a search warrant last month for a home-invasion robbery that occurred Dec. 9 on Grindstone Plaza.
During the investigation of a residence on Rock Quarry Road, the detective found paraphernalia in each of the four residents' bedrooms. Detectives found "two marijuana smoking devices" in the bedrooms of both Gant and Woods.
Roommate Koran Ward, who is not a Missouri basketball player, was arrested Jan. 15 for first-degree robbery and an unlawful use of weapons felony with bond set at $4,500 for the latter. Marijuana and a marijuana grinder were found in his bedroom and five marijuana smoking devices, marijuana and marijuana roaches were found in the bedroom of another roommate, who is also not a member of the team.
Gant and Woods were each arrested at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Columbia Police Department for possession of drug paraphernalia and released on summons. The fourth roommate was arrested two days prior for the same charge, also at the station, and was released on summons.
Items stolen during the robbery were recovered at the Rock Quarry Road residence.
Gant, a sophomore from Springfield, Ga., averages 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds while playing 15 minutes per game.
Woods is in his first season with Missouri after transfering from John A. Logan College. He also averages 15 minutes per game, scoring 3.5 points and pulling in 3.0 rebounds.
