Schmauch sparks Ladybirds in own North Callaway Invite

KINGDOM CITY, Mo. — Eighth-grader Daelyn Schmauch was victorious in both the 800 (2 minutes, 40.74 seconds) and 1,600 (5:44.13) meters to pace the Ladybirds in their own North Callaway Thunderbird Junior Invitational on Monday.

In the boys’ division, eighth-grader Austin DeTienne won the 100 hurdles (:19.40), eighth-grader Mason Douglas triumphed in the shot put (35 feet, 7 inches), and eighth-grader William Jeffries prevailed in the discus (91-8 1/2) to guide the Thunderbirds.

The top four individual finishers and top two relay teams in each event medalled.

Other event winners for the North Callaway girls included seventh-grader Makenna Allen in the 400 (1:07.93), eighth-grader Savannah Littlefield in the pole vault (6-6), and the 1,600 relay (4:48.97) of Schmauch, Allen and seventh-graders Hayley Kimbley and Julisa Moreno.

Eighth-grader Kira Douglas also took second in the pole vault (6-0) and fourth in the 100 (:15.25) for the Ladybirds, while eighth-grader Ellie Eckert came in second in the long jump (14-7). The 800 relay of Littlefield, Moreno, Kira Douglas and eighth-grader Brianna Douglas finished second in 2:08.57.

Allen also placed third in the 100 hurdles (:19.51), Moreno was third in both the 400 (1:13.34) and pole vault (5-0), and Kimbley took fourth in the 400 (1:14.88).

Seventh-grader Heath Lee came in second in the pole vault (7-0) for the North Callaway boys, eighth-grader Josh Riecke placed second in the shot (32-0), and seventh-grader Josh Selby finished second in the discus (84-5). The Thunderbirds’ 400 relay of DeTienne and eighth-graders Victor Daniels, Mason Douglas and Cody Lee came in second in :55.66.

Daniels took third in both the 100 (:13.48) and 200 (:27.12), and fourth in the triple jump (31-4). Cody Lee finished third in the long jump (14-1 1/4).

Seventh-grader Kayanna Gaines took second in the 1,600 (6:21.90) and third in the 800 (2:55.89) for the Kingdom Christian Academy girls. Eighth-grader Sierra Barker finished second in the high jump (4-6).
