Lady Bulldogs softball team blisters Russellville

MOKANE - Senior starter Ashley Miller threw a three-hit shutout as the South Callaway Lady Bulldogs softball team throttled the Russellville Lady Indians in an 11-0, five-inning Show-Me Conference romp Monday night.

Miller struck out two and walked none as South Callaway improved to 15-7 on the season and 4-2 in the SMC. The Lady Bulldogs were in control from the outset, breaking out for six runs in the bottom of the first inning, piling on four more runs in the third and adding one in the fourth.

Miller also went 3-for-3 and scored twice as South Callaway collected 12 hits. Junior shortstop Nicole Horstman was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, while junior third baseman Konnor Arrowood finished 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the third.

Junior center fielder Haley Walters went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

South Callaway prevailed in the junior varsity game 3-2.

The Lady Bulldogs were coming off a championship win in their own South Callaway Tournament on Saturday. No. 4 seed South Callaway blanked No. 2 Eugene 1-0 in the title game.

Horstman singled for the Lady Bulldogs in the fifth inning and senior first baseman Kennedy Farley's triple brought home Horstman for the game's only run.

Farley finished 2-for-3 and Horstman went 1-for-3 as South Callaway ended up with six hits.

Arrowood tossed a three-hit shutout, struck out eight and walked none to collect the victory for the Lady Bulldogs.

South Callaway opened tournament play Saturday morning with a 6-3 triumph over No. 5 Mark Twain.

Horstman was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as the Lady Bulldogs finished with nine hits. Arrowood - playing third base - finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored once.

Miller went the distance for the win, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. She struck out six and walked two.

South Callaway followed up by tripping top-seeded New Bloomfield 3-2 in the semifinals, tallying the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Horstman was 1-for-3 and scored all three of the Lady Bulldogs' runs as they managed only two hits. Farley finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

South Callaway hosts defending Class 2 state champion Fatima in an SMC showdown at 5 p.m. today.
