Auxvasse issues mostly tabled at meeting

Several community concerns were tabled at the Auxvasse Board of Aldermen's regular meeting Tuesday.

A proposed chicken ordinance, which has been on the board's radar for several meetings, still needs to be drafted. The ordinance, which Alderman Terry Walker agreed to cover, would allow residents to own chickens on private property as long as cer- tain regulations concerning nuisance issues are withheld. Walker plans to have a draft of the ordinance available for discussion at the next board meeting.

A 2004 ordinance concerning cemetery maintenance was under community fire during one of the board meetings in July and a committee was created to help open communication between the community and the board. During the first meeting a president of the committee was elected and Alderwoman Stephanie Leverett, who is also a member of the committee said that discussion on the ordinance was heading in a positive direction. But the conversation has yet to continue.

The committee has not met since their initial meeting and Leverett is not positive when the next meeting will be scheduled.

"We still have the original ordinance that got everyone up in arms," Walker said. "Either they get the ball rolling or we continue with the original ordinance."
