Ladybirds race past Lady Hornets 12-2

AUXVASSE - North Callaway senior starter Madison Ausfahl gave up an earned run on just four hits over 4 1/3 innings as the Ladybirds rolled to a 12-2, six-inning romp over the Fulton Lady Hornets in a non-conference clash Monday night.

North Callaway (10-3) - which piled up 15 hits - plated a run in the bottom of the first inning, one in the third, two in the fourth and pulled away behind an eight-run outburst in the sixth. Fulton (4-11) scored single runs in the third and sixth.

Ausfahl struck out seven and issued four walks in raising her season record to 3-1. She helped herself at the plate by going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored.

Senior catcher Erinn Bush finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and scored twice for the Ladybirds, while freshman shortstop Mackenzie Ausfahl was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI and two runs scored. Senior right fielder Patri Eckert went 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, an RBI and three runs scored.

Sophomore second baseman-shortstop Emma Abbott finished 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Lady Hornets, while freshman right fielder Meadow Lungstrum was 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored.

Fulton sophomore starter Kendalyn Roesner was tagged with the loss, surrendering 10 runs - nine earned - on 12 hits in five innings. Roesner struck out five and issued a pair of walks.

North Callaway (11-0-1) won the junior varsity game 15-0 in three innings. Fulton dropped to 1-7.

The Lady Hornets took fifth place in the AA Bash Tournament - hosted by Eugene and Russellville - after an 11-2 victory over Warsaw on Saturday.

Junior catcher Hannah Sparks went 2-for-3 with an RBI as Fulton finished with eight hits, while Abbott finished 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and scored three times. Freshman shortstop Hayden Trowbridge was 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Roesner gave up two earned runs on just four hits over five innings to pick up the win. She had four strikeouts and three walks.

The Lady Hornets started tournament play earlier Saturday with a 4-3 loss to Eldon, but bounced back with a 15-4 rout of Versailles.

Fulton hosts Kirksville in a North Central Missouri Conference encounter today, while North Callaway remains at home to square off against Eastern Missouri Conference foe Community R-6. Both games start at 5 p.m.
